Hanumanajan Chalisa Doha1 Sri Guru Charan Saroj Raj...

Doha1

Shri guru charan saroj raj  nij man mukur sudhari  I                               Baranau Raghuvar bimal jasu  jo dayak phal chari  II
Simple Meaning :- After cleansing with the dust of holy Guru's lotus feet the mirror of mind, I, henceforth describe the pure, untained fame of Shri Raghuvar that goes to award the four fruits of life [ Religion (Dharma), Wealth (Artha), Lust (Kama), and Salvation (Moksha) ]
Hidden Meaning :-  Tulsidasji has started Hanuman Chalisa by bowing to Guru (Spiritual Teacher). In Indian culture Guru is highly respected.  As an active (living thing) is required to throw an inanimate (lifeless) thing in to the air in the same way a radiant person is required to uplift a lifeless and beastlike human to the divine he is Guru. Guru means not smaller but smaller is changed in to bigger by Guru. Worship of Guru is worship of God. The light of torch abolishes darkness. Ignorance is driven away by knowledge. Thus enlightenment is done by Guru. Whose heart is filled with obligations Guru says that.........
Gurur Brahmha Gurur Vishnuhu  Gurur devo Maheshwaraha  I                                                       Guruhu sakshat parabrahmha  tasmai sri guruve namaha   II
Guru is like Brahma creating best qualities, like Vishnu sustaining good conduct and like mahadev destroying bad qualities and conducts meeting between the life and the Supreme Being. The worship of such Guru is a melodious verse in Indian culture.
There are various kinds of Gurus such as Guiding Guru (Margdarshak Guru), Interrogating Guru (Prachak Guru), defects avoider Guru (Dosvisarjak Guru), Sandal Guru (Chandan Guru), Thinker Guru (Vichar Guru), Obliging Guru (Anugraha Guru), Touching Guru (Sparsha Guru), Mercy Guru (Vatsalya Guru), Turtle Guru (Kurma Guru), Moon Guru (Chandra Guru) Reflector Guru (darpan Guru), etc. Every Guru has his own speciality.
Shri Narhariyanandji was the Guru of Education of Tulsidasji and Hanumanji was Guiding Guru under whose guidance he (Tulsidasji) could meet God Shri Rama. He who gives ordinary education is a Guru but who gives the best kind of education i.e. The supereme knowledge of spiritualism is a true Guru. Guru is not a teacher . A teacher teaches us the particular subjects but a Guru (Spiritual teacher) teaches us about the super soul. Guru takes us deep in to knowledge. Guru takes us in to the large ground of of life. There is a proverbial saying in Hindi that ?peena pani chanke aur Guru karana janke?? means we should drink water after filtering in the same manner Guru should be made thoughtfully and with full understanding. There are so many Gurus in this world who exploit their pupils (disciples) economically but hardly a Guru is found who arrests The attention of his pupils.
What does Guru means? ?Gu? means darkness and ?ru? means preventer, one who destroys darkness is  a Guru. What is life? What is life for? Everybody is ignorant about this. Who brings light in the place of darkness. Some one may may answer that The sun spreads light and destroys darkness. It is true The sun destroys darkness but it is a different darkness. In context with life the darkness is ?Gu?, Who perishes this darkness and explains the meaning of life is Guru. what is the objective of our life. We have to go to invisible Thing. If we want to love The invisible (Supereme power), then Guru is very essential for guidance in life. Tulsidasji could have the vision (darshan) of God Shri Rama with the help of only the guidance and mercy of Shri Hanumanji.
In spiritualism Guru is very essential. The dust of lotus feet of Guru and saints is highly and eternally honoured.  We become sacred and purified by the greatness and supermacy of Gurus and saints. Therefore in our culture touch of saints feet is extremely admired.
Once upon a time Devotee Pundlik went on a piligrimage in the north of India. While he was on piligrimage one day he reached the hermitage of Kukut Rishi. Pundlik wake up at night on the auspicious Brahma time for concentration of attention. Then he saw three ugly women coming towards the hermitage. He wondered why those ugly womwn were coming to that secred place. Pundlik saw that those women swept the hermitage clean and they went away becoming beautiful. Thus Pundlik observed them for two or three days. On the Third day Pundlik ran to them and cought their feet as they were leaving the hermitage. He asked the women humbly, ?Mothers, who are you? I have been watching you for three days that you the three women come in uglyness and go back becoming beautiful. ?They said, ?We are Ganga, Yamuna and Saraswati rivers. All teh people come and take bath in us so that all their sin, ugliness and dirt is left in our water. Now where we can wash away all the sin, ugliness and dirt?.    Thousands of peoples visit Kukut Rishi every day, whomw the Rishi shows them the way of life explaining them Kramayoga. The whole hermitage along with the ground where it was erected became sacred and holy by the touch of lotus feet of Kukut Rishi, who was performing the work of God and inspiring others to do the same. When we sweep the hermitage, the sacred dust falls on our body so that we look beautiful. This is the importance of the dust of saints? feet. Not only we the people feel the dust of saints? feet sacred but the God also consider the same      dust sacred. Therefore Tulsidasji in the very beginning oh Hanuman Chalisa prays to clean his mind (like a mirror) with dust of his Guru?s lotus feet.
If we want to meet God first we must clean our mind. So Tulsidasji has written that there is a very significant and special place for mind in the life of human being. Mind should be cleaned everyday. Mind should be made powerful, well-cultured, sensitive and resistant. This can be done by continuous study of vedas. Mind is the excellence of God and Guru is converter of human life. So as much we highten our mind so much our life will be elevated. Mind can make a person God or even beast. Mind is so powerful that it can take man anywhwre. Both mind and intelligence are conductors of body, so they should be made powerful through continuous study. In the horse race, a trained horse wins the race whereas untrained horse fails even though it is whipped. In the same way our life will be sublime if our mind will be sublime if our mind and intelligence are cultured. Life will be developed. Where mind dies there mind becomes lifeless and charmless.  On the trifle occasions also our mind is killed. In  practical life also our mind is trodden.
Bath cleans body and prayer cleans mind. Mind si very important in our life. Mind is very essential in every activity in our life. In Geeta the God has demanded for mind from the individual soul. ?Manmana Bhav? or  ?Mayyev Mana Adhatsva? likewise mentioned in Geeta. But our mind is grimy and sinful and darkened. How can such mind be offered to God. So it is necessary to clean it always.                                                                                                                                                             The purification of mind is very essential for life development. If we want to offer our mind to God it should be first cleaned. How can God accept such dirty, impure, sinful mind? How can mind be purified? How can be its colour changed? How can we change the colour of cuckoo? If we wash a cuckoo with water and soap to change its colour, the soup and water will be exhausted but the colour will never be changed. There is only one idea to change the colour of cuckoo. That is to through the cuckoo in the same fire from where it has came. then its colour will be changed within a few minutes. In the same way to change the colour of our mind we should offer it to the God, be linked with him. Then the mind would be clean, pure, sinless and sacred. Therefore Tulsidasji has advised to offer and join our mind with God in order to purify it. By singing the praise of God?s virtues we can achieve four fruits of life. The four fruits are Religion (Dharma), Wealth (Artha), Lust (kama) and salvation (Moksha).
In our Indian culture there are four manhoods (Purushartha). Among them the first is Religion (Dharma) and the last is salvation (Moksha). He is the great intelligent man who enjoys Wealth (Artha) and Lust (Kama) intellectually. Of course they fall between Religion (Dharma) and Salvation (Moksha). He only can achieve the target (aim) of life. He is the successful curious person. On the other hand, he who runs after wealth and lust night and day his attempts to achieve the aim of religion and salvation are fruitless. The only reason is that the wealth, and lust are such a burden under which man is crushed to death while carrying their load. Naturally he is cought in the vicious circle of 84.
God Vishnu appears with four hands. every hand offers best quality of manhood. You can not be a devotee only studying the religion. In the same way if you think about wealth only from morning to night even in the temple also, you can not be a real devotee. There is a very good arrangement in our holy religious books by equally alloting our time for four manhoods, and religion, wealth and lust should be aimed at salvation.
In the books of religion, the Rishis have equally assigned their time for religion, wealth, lust and worship of God. Of course, out of 24 hours of the day, every activity should be allotted 6 hours. This is the ideal time table of human life. But if more time is required for wealth and work (lust) we can use tow more hours for wealth and two more hours for work (lust) by reducing these four hours from religion because it is elder brother. In this way we can spend eight hours for earning money, eight hours for enjoyment of family life, six hours for sleeping and two hours for the meditation and worship of God. One hour in the morning and one hour in the evening must be spent in pray, worship of God regularly. This is the minimum expectation of the religious person from the human being.
The physical strength is the gift of God to man. Goswamiji Tulsidasji says that God has gifted man with wonderful devine strength. But we have to review wether we have used that strength properly or not. Everybody has to enjoy his life. This divine strength is to earn and maintain the means of enjoymant. Every thing has to be obtained with hard work. Nothing can be achieved without efforts in the world. No pain no gain.
We can reap the crop after sowing seeds, water can be obtained by digging the ground. Food and water can be obtained only through our hard work. Man must use his divine strength properly. Manhood is required for life development. Man must think wether he has used one-tenth of his divine strength used for self development. How much strength do the people possess? Have they used some of their strength for God?s sake? In Indian culture lust (kama) is known as devine strength (Manhood).
There are three main things such as 1) Way of life 2) Way of thinking 3) Way of worship, on which the culture is based. In Indian culture thinking on intellectual, emotional and sexual basis lust (kama) is known as devine strength. Today lust (kama) is known as physical pleasure. Intelligence, emotion and sex all together become temptation. The attraction between the two is called temptation, it should be elevated. What the attraction is created between male and female by God, the same attraction may be raised up to God. It is called sweat devotion. This indicates how deeply the Rishis have thought over the devine strength - Co-living (combined life) makes real life and spiritual life greater. In our country there was not a single Rishi who had no wife.
What is life? How is it? what qualities do I possess? Why the God has given to me? We must try to understand them properly and use them accordingly. So introspection is very essential. All the organs of perception and the organs of action should be made powerful. Today the organs of perception are degraded by the enjoyment of organs of action. they have become weak and vain. there is loss of devine strength in mind, intelligence. We have not used our devine strength properly. We must creat powerful mind and powerful body. Therefore in the following dohas, Tulsidasji prays to Hanumanji to offer him strength (power), intelligence and knowledge.

Hanuman Chalisa Introduction

HANUMAN CHALISA
INTRODUCTION

It is virtually impossible to translate several words from Sanskrit in to exact English equivalents, since these have unexpressed connotations (meanings) and nuances which are deeply in the cultural ethos of the language.
An attempt therefore, has been made in these pages to briefly present the broad sense of several such Sanskrit words which occur frequently in vedic literature and legends and the readers are, therefore, advised to familiarize themselves with the same before commencing the reading of the chapters that follow.

BRAHMIN : Brahmins constitute adistinct social group according to Vedic concept. Who is Brahmin? these are the questions often asked.
The word Brahmin is delivered from “Brahma”, the Supreme Being. A Brahmin, therefore personifies Brahma through his qualities- Knowledge, thoughts and deeds appropriate to Brahma. He conveys Vedic concepts and culture to human societies.

TAPOVAN : In vedic parlance (language), ‘Tapovan’, is a residencial education institution. A ‘Guru’ or a ‘Rishi’ is the head of the ‘Tapovan’ where a large number of students come to study. Education at all ‘Tapovans’ is for building life, not for a mercenary career.

GURU : The nearest equivalent of the word ‘Guru’ in English language is ‘Teacher’ or ‘Preceptor’. However, in Vedic understanding ‘Guru’ is more than just a teacher.  He does not just educate the students in various subjects but moulds their lives for a healthful elevated existance. He takes care of his students like a loving father. The Vedic philosophy places ‘Guru’ in an exalted position. He is addressed by his students as ‘Gurudev’ (‘Dev’ means a God).

RISHI : The nearest English translation of the word ‘Rishi’ is ‘sage’. He is selflessly devoted to the cause of elevating human kind. He does not expect any thing in return and is not swayed by the rich or the powerful. A ‘Rishi’ has the heart of a mother and to him the entire world is his family. He becomes a source of holy inspiration to innumerable people whome he guides in their godward march.

ASHRAM : It is source of guidance and inspiration to people from all spheres in their quest of self development. It is an Abade of ‘Rishi’.
TAPA : It needs physical discipline, mental purity and ofcourse utmost concentration of the aim.

YAGNA : Yagna, which in a narrow sense implies sacrificial rite, conjures up a vision of flames kept going by repeated oblations of ‘ghee’ (clarified butter). But Yagna is much more than an exotic religious ceremony. In the Vedic sense, a yagna represents a bridge between man and divinity. Yagna connotes selfless, collective endeavour (strive) by a group for a pious (religious) pursuit (occupation). such activities dilute one’s ego and creates a feeling for unity.

Lord Hanuman enjoys, even today, the same supermacy over the hearts of all Indian people in the same manner as the Lord Rama and Lord Kirshna do in our Indian culture.   Hanuman is superior and unique in devotees. Man has the ability if he treats in the right - path to attain Godhood.

Hanumanji has created divinity with his own noble achievements. If man possesses supreme intention and ideal, he can also achieve divinity. Hanuman is worshipped independently.  There are independent Temples of Hanuman. As Lord Shiva's Temple remains incomplete without a Nandi, In the same manner Lord Rama's temple also remains incomplete without Hanuman. Hanuman is supernatural as in the absence of Lord Rama in the temple of Hanuman he is perfectly constant. The devotion of Hanuman for Lord Rama is unique.

Tulsidasji has occurred Lord Rama's 'darshan'(sight) by the grace of Hanuman, hence Tulsidasji has accepted Hanuman as his 'Guru' (spiritual teacher). Thus Tulsidasji has infinite faith in Hanuman. Tulsidasji has composed so many literary books, as Hnuman Chalisa, Hanuman Bahuk, Ramcharit manas, Vinay Patrika etc. In the same manner the Hanuman Chalisa is one of them. Hanuman Chalisa is very first composition of Tulsidasji which is very supernatural & popular. In Hanuman Chalisa Tulsidasji has described all the characters and the virtues of Lord Hanuman. Daily who reads Hanuman Chalisa devotionally and sincerely he obtains desired reward and Hanumanji fulfills his desires.
Today man is engrossed in himself with no feelings for God. Wherever spirituality and virtousness comes   there only the exhibition of pomp and arrogance is seen. In this difficult situation it is very necessary for all human being and particularly for children and youngsteres to worship Lord Hanuman, so that we can learn undertaking celibacy and to develop the virtues likewise Might, Intelegence, True Knowledge etc. Hanumanji fulfills the intelegence of his devotees and also gives protection under his kind shelter.

We can see a well co-ordination between worship and action, devotion and service to Lord Rama in the character of Hanuman. It is very much important to keep supereme thoughts with service to God and attachment of  love towards God. which is seen in the characters of Hanuman. Only to remember God is insufficient. There should be a co-ordination between worship and action which is seen in Hanumanji, so in this manner we can adopt this virtue from Hanumanji. Hanumanji is highly keen to do the work of Lord Rama with full devotion. 'Ram Kaj Karibeko Aatur' likewise mentioned in Hanuman Chalisa. In this manner we should also be ready to work for God everytime. and we should also be prepared to purify our mind, soften our heart, and keen pretty intelligence, for this purpose there is only one contrivance which is shown by our 'Shruti' (Holy Devotional Book) is that "Swadhyay Pravachnabhyam Na Pramaditavyam". It is expected in Swadhyay that a person should open his book of life and try to understand the thoughts of 'Shruti' and  introspect himself.
We should assimilate the vitues of our beloved God and for that purpose we should work hard for accomplishment. Without accomplishment the worship is feeble (useless).  Man can not be a spiritual by putting mark [Tilkam (Saffron)] on the forehead or by keeping fast on Saturday. Spirituality is based upon the Phycholosical and Intellectual development. A devotee should study well the divine virtues of his beloved God and it should be assimilated it in life.

Our firm faith should be on moral values. We are sent here by God in this universe. In this manner we should live here peacefully and with devotional soul and get departure from here with extreme satisfaction. This should be our firm intention. Man has been provided with two divine powers by the God  i.e. Mind and Intellegence! Man can attain Godhood by developing these divine powers. In this vast cosmos only man can experience these divine thoughts. An Ideal worship is likewise a devotee should offer his life at the feet of God by developing these divine powers. How we should live in this universe and how we can go towards God, these teachings are made to know to us by our Indian culture.  There should be a co-ordination with Gnyana (Knowledge), Karma (Action) and Bhakti (Devotion to God). It is a co-ordination between  the hand of Karmyogi (Assiduous person), eyes of Gnyani (Wise person) and heart of Bhakt (devotee). This is called triplicate junction. This type of triplicate junction is visible in the character of Hanuman.

Tulsidasji has disclosed all the moral excellences of Hanuman in Hanuman Chalisa. It was very difficult and impracticable to narrate the characters of Hanuman for a simple personality like me. Therefore I have collected   the discourses delivered by Param Pujya Pandurang Shastri Athavaleji (Rev. Dadaji) from various books and tried to create a chain from their pearls of thoughts. I have studied in deep and tried to explain it in details. I have also reffered a book by name 'Hanuman Anka' published by Geeta Press Gorakhpur.

It is very helpful to the devotee of Hanuman and will inspire to everybody always. I pray the God to offer strength  and power to the devotees of Hanuman to assimilate the path disclosed by him. Hanuman should be our ideal and Lord Rama may be our helper and both of them may give all of us strength to mould us likewise the path of diety. this Hanuman Chalisa will give you a new outlook by which  the life of mankind will be manifested.
